About the Ballet Conservatory

Our Mission:

The mission of the Ballet Conservatory of South Texas is to fulfill the developmental needs of serious young dancers, regardless of economic background, in a safe, nurturing and pre-professional dance company environment. The BCSTX does so by raising money for scholarships, providing high quality studio education and meaningful public performance opportunities, and by giving qualified guidance toward further higher education in dance and careers in dance performance and education. The BCSTX is also dedicated to educating and inspiring underserved children in San Antonio through providing free tickets to the company’s performances, and free dance lecture demonstrations in schools, social service centers and other community locations.

The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas is a pre-professional ballet Academy and Company accepting students as young as 3 years of age and offering classes to all dancers up to the age of 21 willing to apply themselves diligently to the disciplines required to become proficient in contemporary American ballet.

The BCSTX performing Company is comprised of pre-professional dancers between the ages of 11 and 21 selected through an open audition process. The age group of male participants is determined on an individual basis. The Company’s purpose is to give more accomplished young dancers the opportunity to train and educate themselves in an environment very close to that of a professional company.

Our Artistic Goals are to:

-- Provide quality dance instruction in ballet, jazz and modern dance forms in a warm, nurturing environment in accord with the developing traditions of contemporary American ballet

-- Impart to the dancers an appreciation of aesthetic values and creativity as well as technical skills, cultivating a love for the whole discipline of dance

-- Create vital, innovative, artistically sound performances

-- Be available as a resource to San Antonio and surrounding communities through special performances and guest instruction at other dance education venues

-- Host master classes, workshops, auditions at publicly stated intervals, as published on the BCSTX website

-- Network and collaborate with other community and arts organizations to create exciting dance projects for the whole community

Our facility is located at 5200 Broadway in Alamo Heights. We have two large state of the art studios with sprung floors, a break room and changing rooms suitable for preparing for performances. The Ballet Conservatory of South Texas is a not-for-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) designation. We welcome students, interested staff persons and parents to visit our studios and learn more about our programs.
